Cleaning the bathroom the “green way”

Overwhelmed by the sheer number of bathroom cleaning products out there? All you need are 4 items that are inexpensive and easy on you, not to mention the environment.

Fill 3 spray bottles:

1. 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 distilled water (this makes an all-purpose cleaner)

2. 100% vinegar

3. hydrogen peroxide

Fill empty big spice or parmesian cheese container that has one of those tops with the little holes in it with baking soda.

Counters, sinks, mirrors, faucets – Spray with the 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 water. Things will only smell like vinegar until they dry. You can add a few drops of peppermint or lemon essential oils to this water to help with the smell if you can’t stand it. Wipe with paper towels or cloth.

Toilets – Wipe surface with toilet paper, spray with full strength vinegar, then immediately with hydrogen peroxide. This kills more bacteria than bleach. Wipe dry with paper towels. Bowl – Pour in 2 cups full strength vinegar, let set overnight, and brush clean.

Tub – Spray with all-purpose cleaner. For scummy areas, sprinkle with baking soda from your “shaky” container. Then drop about 10 drops of lemon essential oil onto the bottom of the tub. Using a scrub brush, it doesn’t take much effort to clean. And it smells great! Rinse and wipe walls. I have one of those fiberglass tub/showers that has a textured floor. Over the years I literally tried dozens of products to get that floor clean. I am really surprised  I didn’t strip it completely off. The baking soda and lemon oil worked so well and so easily I was shocked.
